In a recent development, Twitter, now rebranded as X, has fulfilled its promise of introducing audio and video call support. The feature quietly went live yesterday within the direct message section of the app, although there was no official announcement at the time.

Elon Musk, the owner of the company, officially revealed the feature on X just 6 hours ago, emphasizing that it's an early version. This update allows iOS users to initiate audio or video calls, marking a significant enhancement in the messaging experience. Users can customize their preferences, choosing to receive calls from contacts in their address book, people they follow, or verified users.

X CEO Linda Yaccarino had previously confirmed the launch of video calls as part of the platform's transition into an "everything app." However, the exact release date was not specified. It remains unclear whether this feature will be available to all users or exclusively to X Premium members.

Elon Musk clarified that the feature will be compatible with iOS, Android, Mac, and PC, and users won't need a phone number to utilize it. He described this update as a transformation of the platform into an "effective global address book." Although this is an early version, Musk hinted at ongoing evolution, although specific details about the future enhancements remain unknown at this point.
