The biggest hospital in KPK no longer provides free treatment through the Sehat Card program |
The largest healthcare facility in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), Lady Reading Hospital (LRH), has temporarily halted the treatment of patients under the Sehat Card Plus Programme due to unpaid dues.
LRH made this decision as the State Life Insurance Corporation of Pakistan failed to clear their outstanding payments, compelling the hospital to suspend treatments funded by the government health program.
In a notification issued on Wednesday, LRH announced the immediate suspension of services under the Sehat Sahulat Card program until further notice. However, emergency services will continue as usual. Notably, LRH is the second health facility in the province to take such action;
The Peshawar Institute of Cardiology (PIC) had previously suspended services under the Sehat Card program, citing approximately Rs. 2 billion in unpaid dues from the State Life Insurance Corporation.
The caretaker provincial government is grappling with a financial crisis, leading to challenges such as delayed employee salaries and stalled under-construction projects initiated by the previous government.
The Sehat Card program, a public-friendly initiative introduced by the former government of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, has unfortunately been affected by the current administration's lack of commitment.
