PTA excels at LEAD Awards This year for Ensuring Online Safety of Children and Youth. |
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) achieved success at the LEAD Awards 2023, acknowledging its dedication to ensuring online safety for children and youth. The Director of PTA, who heads the Child Online Protection Committee, accepted the award during a ceremony organized by Telecommunications Council in the UAE.
PTA's notable accomplishments in this area include a Memorandum of Understanding with UNICEF, the establishment of an emergency short code (1121) for reporting child abuse, and the execution of a Knowledge, Attitude, and Practices (KAP) survey conducted by UNICEF Global as part of the 'Disrupting Harm Programme.' Pakistan became the 12th country to conduct this survey.
Furthermore, PTA collaborated with TikTok to promote online safety in 100 government schools through awareness videos, booklets, and toolkits. PTA's extensive awareness campaign involved curated videos, articles, public notices, SMS messages, and community engagement with Islamic scholars, cricketers, and the entertainment industry.
These initiatives earned PTA the prestigious LEAD Award, positioning Pakistan as a trailblazer in safeguarding the digital future of its youth. The LEAD Awards recognize the accelerated efforts of regional technology providers, corporations, telecom operators, and regulators.
Telecommunications Council, spanning over 25 countries and representing telecom operators and various stakeholders, organized the event.
